newlands windfarm

Online Community Consultation

Welcome to the community consultation website for Newlands Windfarm

We are planning a small wind farm consisting of three turbines near junction 42 of the M6 near Carlisle. If constructed, based on an estimated average annual household electricity consumption of 4,361 kWh, the Newlands Windfarm would provide electricity for up to approximately 3,742 households[1].

The wind farm would help the North West Region reach its renewable energy targets. It would also provide an alternative source of power at a time when fossil fuels are becoming scarcer and the need to combat climate change is becoming even more urgent.

This website enables you to read about our plans, sign up for project updates and have your say about the wind farm. Please click here to register and take part in consultation

[1] Based on a wind farm of up to 6.9MW (assuming a capacity factor of 27%) and an average electricity consumption in Carlisle in 2006 of 4361 kWh (Digest of UK Energy Statistics 2007,www.berr.gov.uk/energy/statistics/regional/regional-local-electricity/ page36213.html).  A wind farm of 6MW is calculated at 3,254 homes supplied.  It should be noted that the number of homes supplied may vary depending on site wind speeds and household electricity consumption.
